In The MediaAmma has been quietly gaining a reputation for her outreach over the course of 30 years. Only in recent years has the world press begun to take notice of her efforts, with glowing stories in prestige media, including TV, print, and radio. This section represents a small cross section of radio and online news articles.

By the second day of the visit, BBC London News had run two separate TV features, and we had a full page article and editorial in 'The Independent'. The BBC World Service World Today ran a special, and we had also coverage in the Asian media and local papers. Then, we got a call from 'The Sun' newspaper, asking us whether they could come to interview Amma. This was big news! The British media has historically been very difficult to win over - most notably because of the celebrity driven culture it represents; unfortunately Amma has never been seen as a 'celebrity' in her own right. So to have 'The Sun' contact us was a big deal. But, this raised the issue of how they would handle the coverage, and how we could manage 'the situation'. Being uncertain, we said that Amma's interview schedule was very busy, but we would get back to them as soon as possible. The rumour spread around the sports hall and became a topic of discussion. It is easy to forget that it is in fact always Amma who manages these situations for us. Swamiji was duly informed of The Sun's interest, and the nature of the publication. He asked Amma, who made clear they were welcome. Yet another example of how Amma welcomes everyone to her. None of us could have anticipated such an extraordinary outcome. She spent much longer with The Sun journalist than she usually does with press representatives. You can tell by his subsequent article below (click here) he was evidently moved by his contact with Amma.
