Sponsored wedding ceremonies

In India, marriage is essential for the stability of the entire family. For decades, at the requests of poor families, Amma has sponsored the weddings of impoverished couples.

The Ashram provides all the items necessary for a traditional ceremony, including the bride’s wedding sari and gold ornaments. In 2003, during Amma’s 50th birthday celebrations, Amma performed a special wedding ceremony for 158 couples. She now conducts free wedding ceremonies every year on her birthday.

Since the 2004 tsunami, the Ashram has conducted free weddings for hundreds of poor couples affected by the disaster.
